Don’t Forget! Friday April 3, 2015 is Cheese Weasel Day

Have you not heard Cheese Weasel Day is April 3rd?

10277346_698046623633607_162905812852104480_n#CheeseWeaselDay is the only internet holiday. It celebrates the contributions of techies to daily life. Do a web search and see for yourself, its a grassroots holiday that’s been around since the 90′s.

On Cheese Weasel Day (April 3rd) the Cheese Weasel delivers cheese to techies, usually leaving a slice of cheese under their mouse pads. People have office celebrations (see below, the party is already starting!), create art and generally express gratitude to techies on this fun (and cheesy) holiday.

Not sure who to send thankfulness to on Cheese Weasel Day? Anyone who helps you when your technology goes on the blink. They deserve a thanks! You’re not going to be able to give them an Apple iWatch until April 24th, so why not just slip them some cheese now?

Please consider joining the tradition for 2015, encourage  your company or organization to show appreciation of tech support. Don’t wait until Skynet gains self-awareness and your tech support has to deactivate a killer sentient robot before you say thanks. Say thanks April 3rd.  If you do have a celebration, please remember to use the tag #CheeseWeaselDay and let us know.

Remember, robots don’t care about cheese!

Thank you!

The Legend of the Cheese Weasel Continues in 2014. Get ready!

Sunday, July 7th, 2013

The Cheese Weasel Day  story  started in Silicon Valley in the early 90′s. A couple out for a day in the park on April 3rd noticed a weasel carrying a piece of wrapped cheese and wondered what was going on. They decided they must have had a rare sighting of the Cheese Weasel. Their story eventually morphed into the urban myth of the Cheese Weasel who brings cheese to the good little tech industry workers, leaving a piece of cheese under their mouse pads on April 3rd.

Could this be the cheese weasel?

Since that time, the celebration of the Cheese Weasel has grown and become an Internet holiday tradition that celebrates the contributions of workers in the tech industry. Tech workers get a lot of grief from people and are often under-appreciated. Cheese Weasel Day is a fun way to say thank you to them.

Over the years people have made art, music, prose and poetry to support and celebrate the myth of the Cheese Weasel. It’s all for fun and just to be nice to people who do a lot of good things for us. I like to think of CWD as the milk of human kindness, curdled. As we all know, kindness is a fondue-mental human need.

So, what’s your contribution to the Cheese Weasel Day fun going to be in 2014?

Molly Carocci is the undisputed poet laureate of Cheese Weasel Day.

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

Molly Carocci is the undisputed poet laureate of  Cheese Weasel Day.

The Cheese-loving Shepherd to His Love

Eat cheese with me and be my Love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That dills and Wensleydales and Tetillas, Or Edams or Havarti yields.

And we will sit upon a sweater,
And see the shepherds eat some Cheddar
By shallow rivers, at whose falls
Melodious birds eat Emmentals.

Cheese Weasel Day on the awesome Techcrunch blog!

“Unknown to most, April 3rd is Cheese Weasel Day, the holiday where the Cheese Weasel brings dairy goodness to all the good boys and girls in the tech industry. While the origins are murky, it seems to have started around 1992 when a weasel was spotted carrying a Kraft Single. This, they assumed, must be the Cheese Weasel, and therefore, that it must be Cheese Weasel Day. What was the weasel going to do with the cheese? He must be off to put it under the keyboards of good tech workers everywhere and that’s just what we expect you to do today! Huzzah!” Read more on Techcrunch

KOSU commentary this morning about celebrating the unsung TECHIES in our lives with Cheese Weasel Day…

Here is a message for all the techies listening today. Stop asking why you don’t get more respect and start recognizing your influence. You’re quick and clever. You don’t like under-handed co-workers and back-room deals. This makes you a great candidate for leadership. You have great ideas, but you’re not a sovereign nation. So, give yourself permission to build relationships and mingle.

cheeseweeasel-73478_630x210

Some time in the early ‘90s, a couple of techies in Silicon Valley were hanging out at a park when they caught a glimpse of a weasel scurrying by with a slice of wrapped American cheese. They knew in an instant it must be the Cheese Weasel delivering a piece of cheese to some good little techie. After all, someone must be showing all the good techie boys and girls some appreciation.
